Letter To a Trainer

Re:  The skills

1)  Are your trainers trained on Adult Learning Concepts?
2)  Do you allow for simulation training so they can practice the work and learn to multi task?
3)  Do you have a great training manual?
4)  Do you love your evaluation process and form?
5)  Do you have an 'academy' setting or a local college you could begin pre vocational courses at?
6)  Can you change your hiring process in order to do a better job of educating those applying (3 day seminar to include application process for candidates)

Re:  The floor culture

1)  Are your supervisors all on the same path and consistent with their leadership skills and abilities, do they coordinate, communicate and work together to problem solve.
2)  Has there been any major 'event' in the past years that you might call it a turning point, defining moment or drastic change at the agency?
3)  Have you had any whole agency meeting to discuss the issues, problems, atmosphere, professionalism etc in order to find solutions?
4)  Do you have the buy in of your leaders to do something about these things
5)  Who at your agency does not want change?
6)  Is there a clear understanding of negativity, what negative 'behaviors' are happening and why?

All of these things are at the heart of problems in agencies and can be turned around.  If you want to give me a call or just respond to this email I can share with you some of the agencies I have worked with and show you the document we ended up creating to make things better.  I don't live there but I can tell you what I have seen that 'doesn't work' in training, leadership and process and ways of working in this profession.  Does that make sense?  Like they say, keep doing what you are doing you'll keep getting what you're gettin  and there are many serious steps you can take to save your agency the lost funds from turnover.  No one wants to go to their chosen lifework to be unhappy - it's a matter of listening, understanding and getting a buy in for needed change.
